Job role: Refugee Support Worker

Purpose of job
The Support and Integration Team is an integral part of ACH; the ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent standards of support, quality advice and guidance to enable the settlement and integration of refugees in line with our vision and mission statement.
- Completing an initial needs and risk assessment for each person referred to service.
- Providing person-centred and culturally sensitive support to ACH tenants.
- Developing a personalised plan of support for each person and ensuring that the plan of support is reviewed regularly.
- Giving advice and support on a range of issues including housing, finances, education, employment, health and immigration, as required.
- Supporting people with budgeting / registering with care providers / creating social networks / advocacy/ volunteering / training / employment opportunities etc.
- Signposting to other relevant external agencies and referral partners as appropriate.
- Developing links with external organisations or agencies to promote the needs of refugees and create opportunities for partnership working.
- Effectively managing a designated caseload of tenants, as well as keeping accurate records and maintaining case files to a high standard.
- Taking responsibility and ownership for completion of work to deadlines.
- Conducting yourself in line with the general standards of conduct and behaviour as detailed in the Code of Conduct; which includes awareness of risk, health and safety at work, data protection, as well as embracing the cultural diversity of all tenants, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Working within the framework of any fixed budget associated with the service.
- Any other tasks commensurate with the role.
Health and Safety:
- Ensuring you comply with all legislative requirements at all times and undertake your responsibilities in relation to the ACH Health & Safety Policy.
- Supporting tenants to meet their health and safety responsibilities/housing management requirements under the terms of their tenancy agreement.
- Fully participating in team meeting, staff meetings, training sessions, supervision and any other relevant forum or communication processes.
- Sharing information sensitively and confidentially within the organisation and externally in line with GDPR guidelines.
- Raising any problematic issues with your line manager at the earliest opportunity, to ensure that service provision to the tenants is not detrimentally disrupted.
- Liaising with other departments within the organisation as required.
Policy and Procedure:
- Ensuring that you fully understand and comply with ACH Policies and procedure and the day to day operation of the service.
- Reporting any serious breaches of policy/procedure with your line manager at the earliest opportunity.
Due to the nature of this post, an enhanced DBS check will be undertaken for successful applicants, but only with their prior consent.
- Understanding of working with people with complex/multiple needs
- Minimum one year’s experience and knowledge of working with people with support needs
- Educated to undergraduate level or equivalent experience.
- Confident Microsoft skills - Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to assist people to sustain tenancies and develop/maintain their independence
- Commitment to empowering refugees, providing advocacy and culturally sensitive support
- Ability to effectively assess, manage and continuously review needs and risks
- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage a caseload of tenants
- Commitment to team working
- Understanding of Health & Safety issues in relation to the role.

- Knowledge of a community language(s) and/or lived experience of being a refugee
- Demonstrable experience of working with refugees/asylum seekers
- Understanding of the welfare benefits system
- Experience of supporting people using assessment and support planning tools
- Experience of supporting people to understand their tenancy rights and responsibilities, including housing management issues
- Local knowledge and networks, including specialist agencies providing services for refugees in Bristol
- Experience of utilising policies and procedures to ensure best practice principles are followed
- Knowledge of legislation relating to immigration
- Ability to support people to manage budgets and debts
