We are excited to recruit six artists for our Community Climate Action creative commission. The project aims to bring artists together to co-design and co-produce two murals that highlight our climate and sustainability priorities. These priorities were found through community consultation, and we hope to bring some of these priorities to life through Art Activism.

We welcome emerging and established artists and artists from different artistic backgrounds; you do not need to be a muralist to apply. The project aims to upskill artists, who will be supported, trained, and facilitated by two Rising Arts Agency muralists, who will also support the co-production process.

In September 2023, we consulted some of our tenants, clients, and colleagues about the most important issues to them in 7 different areas of life involving sustainability. These areas include:

• Housing • Energy • Waste and Consumption • Economy and Jobs • Food • Transport • Nature

We aim to work with refugee, asylum seeking and migrant artists to highlight the priorities that came out of this consultation, harnessing their artistic vision to co-create 2 murals and bring our priorities to life. We hope to make the mural relevant and accessible to our diverse community.

Successful applicants must commit to:

October – November: (2 half days)

• 2 half day workshops led by Rising Arts Agency (£80 per person each session)
*Workshop 1: Will include an introduction to muralling, explore the themes and aspirations of the design and together as a group we will begin to explore options for the 2 murals.
*Workshop 2: the muralists will present their designs for the group to vote on and then make final edits and suggestions to the design. The designs will be approved for sign off by the community and ACH in the session. The muralists will spend 1 day each scaling up the final designs onto the 2 wall spaces.

December: (2 days)

• Artists will paint their design across 2 days. 3 artists working on 1 house each with the support of Rising Arts Agency artists. (£170 per person each day)

Dates for the workshops and painting days will be finalised when the recruitment period is over. Each artist will get £500 for the whole project. Transport and subsistence will be covered.
