English My Way Party
To celebrate our learners’ completion of their English My Way course we threw them a party on the 22nd March at St Pauls Learning Centre.
There was a fantastic turnout of around 40 people including some ACH staff and the tutors who taught the course. It was kicked off with some delicious dhal and rice made by Food Without Borders and a stack of samosas from an ACH tenant. Everyone enjoyed it thoroughly with some even going up for seconds!
After food came the music. A large group of learners, tenants and ACH staff got together on the dance floor and had a good old party. It was warming to see such a mix of people having a laugh together. Hafsa was also working away hard during the party, providing free henna tattoos for anyone who wanted them. They were truly beautiful.
Easton Energy Group had a bicycle set up in the room giving people a chance to win prizes if they kept the light on the bike on for a long period of time. This was to raise awareness of energy usage and to provide tips to save money.
As this party was aimed at celebrating our learners’ successes, Tom, ACH Tutor, handed out certificates for all those who had completed the English My Way course. There was also a range of ‘special’ awards such as ‘Most Punctual’ and ‘Most Inquisitive’.
We are pleased to say that we’ve recently received funding to run English My Way courses for another year in Bristol, which will enable us to help more people by providing them with basic English language skills.
English My Way is a project organised by Good Things Foundation, BBC Learning English, and The British Council, and is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government’s English language competition.
