Rebuilding Lives: Mohammad’s Journey in Wolverhampton
When Mohammad arrived in the UK from Iran in September 2022, he carried not just his belongings, but years of experience, a degree in electrical engineering, and a strong desire to build a better life for himself and his family. But like many refugees, he faced a tough road ahead.
While his skills were strong, his unfamiliarity with the UK system, limited English, and lack of local work experience became significant barriers. Finding employment and building a stable life was not just about his qualifications – it meant adapting to a completely new country, culture, and way of doing things.
That is where ACH stepped in.
Right from the start, Mohammad embraced every opportunity that came his way. Through one-to-one support and regular focus group sessions, he worked closely with his support officer to set clear goals: improve his English, enrol in college, obtain a driving licence, and eventually get back into the field he was enthusiastic about. Each step brought new challenges – but also meaningful achievements.
One of his biggest wins was a deeply personal one: In April 2025, after more than two years apart, Mohammad was reunited with his family through a family reunion process. Welcoming his wife and daughter into their new home made all hard work worth it. This was not just about rebuilding a career but about rebuilding a life. He also passed his UK driving test – both theory and practical, which boosted his confidence and gave him the independence he needed to move forward. He is now enrolled in ESOL classes at a college in Wolverhampton and continues to make steady progress in his English. Once he is ready, his next step is to complete a vocational qualification and work as a certified electrician.
At ACH, we have walked alongside Mohammad every step of the way. He is an example of resilience, strength, and determination. His story reminds us that behind every refugee is a person full of potential – someone who just needs the right support to begin again. We are proud to be part of his journey – and to stand with every individual like him who comes through our doors, not looking for a handout, but for a fair chance to start over.
