Sardar Majeed is a Himilo learner with ACH

Sardar's Story

Text
The first time I came here I couldn’t work because I didn’t have the English language skills, but after 4 months of doing the ESOL course I learnt more English with ACH and that helped me to get a job.

Sardar is a former ACH tenant and has been a learner with us for over a year. Coming from Iraq, Sardar couldn’t speak any English when he arrived in the UK. “The first time I came here I couldn’t work because I didn’t have the English language skills, but after 4 months of doing the ESOL course I learnt more English with ACH and that helped me to get a job”.

Currently, Sardar is a learner on our ESOL Entry 2 course since progressing from the Entry 1 course. He says that “this course has helped me a lot because before I couldn’t speak English and I had to have a translator and I don’t need it now. It has helped me with going to the doctor and going to the supermarket.”

Jack Hinchliffe, ACH Tutor and Job Coach, has praise for Sardar; “throughout his time with ACH, Sardar’s English has improved a lot and he has progressed from ESOL Entry 1 to Entry 2. We have seen him gain a lot of confidence, especially in his speaking skills which enable him to chat with his customers at work. He continues to make great progress and make a great contribution to our class.”

Since arriving in the UK two and a half years ago, Sardar has progressed in his career from working in a car wash in Weston Super Mare to now working part-time at a supermarket for the past 3 months. He is also undertaking training and work experience to support his future career goals. “I want to work as a Barber, I am training for this at a Barbershop nearby and I want to do this in the future,” says Sardar.
