Eileen handing out EPIC award

Exceptional People in Care

Text
ACH was proud to sponsor an award. Hearing the stories of the young people was touching and inspiring.

On 5th November it wasn’t only Bonfire Night making a noise. The night also saw the second annual EPIC and STARS Awards in Bristol, a red carpet event at We The Curious, celebrating the achievements of over 120 children and young people in Bristol who are in, or have recently left care.

Bristol City Council is the corporate parent to over 700 children and 400 care leavers, and, like any parent, they have high aspirations and ambitions for their young people.

Many children in care have had a chaotic or traumatic start in life, but it is important to recognize their achievements and the valuable contribution they make to our communities and city. This is the founding principle of the EPIC and STARS Awards. To achieve so much in the face of such challenge must be celebrated.

ACH was proud to sponsor the EPIC Change Maker award, for young people making a difference to others. We felt this was a hugely important thing to be recognised for, as we too strive to make an epic change to peoples’ lives.

ACH Vice-Chair, Eileen Means, attended the event to present the award to the worthy winners. She said: “ACH was proud to sponsor an award. Hearing the stories of the young people was touching and inspiring”.
