Rita is from Hong Kong and relocated to Bristol in 2021. She first discovered ACH at a Welcome Event for Hong Kong nationals and has remained connected with us ever since.
While in Hong Kong, Rita worked in a social enterprise that employed people with disabilities to make and serve delicious food. Rita found that experience quite rewarding and was inspired by how food brings people together regardless of their backgrounds. Since then, she has always wondered if she would have the opportunity to use food to connect with people again.
As a loyal follower of our social media accounts, Rita was excited when she saw our upcoming Accelerated Cooking and Entrepreneurship (ACE) Course announced on our social media. The ACE course, in collaboration with Coexist Community Kitchen, equips participants over 7 weeks with essential skills in professional catering and all the information needed to start a business.
She shares: When I saw the course outline, I thought I was going to take it and see where it would take me. Another reason to take this course and to have an idea to set up a food business is that I barely find authentic Hong Kong-style food here in Bristol. Therefore, I see this as a challenge to make some foods that have the soul of Hong Kong cuisine yet local people will enjoy them.
Rita enrolled on the course and quickly learned all the skills she needed to start a food business. Each lesson provided a chance to learn new cooking skills and create dishes with various themes and ingredients. Every dish created on the course represented the creativity, talent, and culture of the course participants, each making their own version of the same dish with fresh and local ingredients.
When asked if she would recommend the ACE course, Rita’s answer was clear:
Definitely. I have already introduced this course to a few of my friends who are also interested in developing a food business in Bristol. It’s fun yet very practical. And it really helps people take the very first step on their food entrepreneur journey. I really love the ACH team, who always respond promptly to my questions and provide relevant professional advice.
Now, Rita has successfully completed the ACE course and has decided to continue her culinary journey. She launched her business, “Far Far Away”, and brings the people of Bristol deliciously authentic Hong Kong food.
Rita’s current clients are primarily people who have already experienced Hong Kong cuisine, but she is now creating new recipes to share the essence of Hong Kong cuisine with local Bristolians.
Recently, Rita had a stall at International Women’s Day in City Hall, an event which saw over 200 visitors. She is already looking forward to her next event, the Bristol Refugee Festival, taking place on June 22nd 2025, at Queen Square, Bristol
