Meet Mustafa

Mustafa Osman is a support worker for refugees

What did you do before coming to ACH?

While I was doing my MSc in Plant Biology in Turkey, I also worked as a support worker helping refugees coming to Turkey to settle. Since I came to the UK, I have done different paid and unpaid jobs as I wanted to integrate into the community, learn new skills, understand the system and contribute in paying government taxes.

Why did you decide to come to ACH?

I am a person who wants to live my life for purpose and enjoy what I am doing. I found that I can do this in ACH by helping vulnerable refugees, meeting new people with new stories and making positive difference to their life.

What project are you working on for us?

I work as a support worker, and have been preparing for Refugee Week activities with my colleagues.

What is it that you want to achieve?

As I came from Syria, I know exactly the meaning of suffering. I still ask myself if I can do something more. That’s why I want to be in a position where I have the power to help more people as much as I can.

What are you hoping to gain from ACH?

To gain more experiences and skills that would allow me to identify other’s needs and become positive influence.

What is your proudest moment in your career?

It was in Turkey, when an injured young man fled from Syria to Turkey. We had to travel to another city to find a hospital. I stayed next to him for more than 16 hours until the Dr said he was fine; it was a long night! I felt very proud of myself that I participated in rescuing someone’s life.
