Theatre performance by refugees
As part of ACTA Theatre’s REACT (Refugee Engagement and Integration through Community Theatre) festival, 6 refugees recently took part in performances of ‘Lost Sheep’, a play totally devised and performed by ACH tenants and learners. They have had rehearsals every Wednesday since October 2017 and put in a lot of hard work to get the performances right.
Summary of Lost Sheep:
“Don't dig a hole for your neighbour to fall into...you may just fall into it yourself! Sheep escaping in a small Sudanese village leads to all sorts of problems. A family-friendly show, presented in partnership with ACH.”
Overall, our tenants did 3 performances of ‘Lost Sheep’ to the packed theatre in Bedminster. It was a humorous, eye-opening and impressive piece of theatre, especially from people whose first language isn’t English.
We have received some lovely feedback from the audience:
What did you learn from the show?
“To always be positive.”
“About forgiving and kindness to one another, regardless of what they may have done before.”
“How to be a good neighbour – to forgive and forget.”
How did it make you feel?
“Happy. It was heart-warming and inspired me to bring more people to see your next shows.”
“Interested in finding out more about Sudan lifestyle.”
“It was entertaining with great humour.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to Matilda and Naomi (ACH support workers) who helped organise the whole thing from start to finish and an even bigger thank you to ACTA Theatre, especially Ingrid and Aqeel, who did a LOT of work for the show! We look forward to working with them again in the future. And of course, a massive congratulations to the tenants who participated and did such an amazing job.
