In 2022, ACH delivered the first iteration of our Accelerated Cooking and Entrepreneurship (ACE) course in partnership with Coexist Community Kitchen. Following on from the success of this pilot programme, we are happy to announce that we have now started delivering the course for a second time with a brand-new cohort of learners. These learners come from a similarly diverse range of cultural backgrounds and the types of cuisine cooked will include Yemeni, Afghani and Caribbean.
The course will run over six weeks with each session being made-up of a mixture of practical cooking skills in the kitchen delivered by Co-Exist Community Kitchen and entrepreneurship skills and business knowledge being delivered by ACH staff and a number of guest speakers, including previous course graduates. The business skills element of delivery will also include elements of sustainability and environmental awareness as part of our of our Green Growth Accelerator Project which aims to support refugee and migrant-led businesses from across Bristol to become more sustainable and consider their environmental impact.
Additional course materials will be made available for learners via our Moodle platform allowing them to continue building their skills whilst not in the classroom. We are pleased to celebrate that a number of graduates from the previous cohort of learners are now trading on the All About the Cooks platform, selling homemade foods that they developed through the programme as well as trading at a number of local markets including St Nicholas market.
All About the Cooks will also be joining this course as one of the guest speakers and will be supporting all participants to onboard onto the platform and begin selling their home-cooked food across Bristol.
Last week, we hosted an induction session for participants in the new ACE course to allow them to familiarise themselves with the expectations of the course as well as meet each other and network. One of the participants, Seyma, shared the following about her hopes for the course:
“Cooking and sharing it with other people is my passion. For years, I only cooked for people I knew. But now I want to use this ability to both earn money and meet new people. I believe that this course will help me reach my goal, so I am very excited. Thank you and your colleagues for this!”
Upon the conclusion of the course, learners will have the opportunity to participate in a cook-off event to put into practice the skills and knowledge that they've gained during the programme, so make sure you keep an eye on ACH’s social media for updates.
