Refugee Week 2024 in Bristol: A Week of Unity and Empowerment
From June 17th to 24th, we celebrated Refugee Week in Bristol with a series of fantastic events highlighting refugees' contributions, creativity, and resilience. This year's Refugee Week theme, "Our Home" focuses on welcoming and integrating refugees into their new communities. Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival held annually around World Refugee Day on June 20th, aiming to foster understanding, solidarity, and inclusivity for refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Our Highlights of Refugee Week 2024
From Sanctuary to Opportunity event at Triodos Bank
We started the week with the ‘From Sanctuary to Opportunity’ event, attended by over 50 participants, including speakers from Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority. During this event, we launched the interim report of our Change Maker report series and celebrated the extraordinary contribution of refugee and migrant communities to our city, accompanied by delicious Sudanese cuisine from one of our esteemed clients.
Eastville Park BBQ Feast
We enjoyed the sunny weather with our tenants at Eastville Park on Friday. It was a delightful day filled with barbecues, music, and games, bringing together our tenants and team to celebrate the beautiful weather and the spirit of Refugee Week.
Making Financial Services and Enterprise Support more Inclusive of Refugees
Our Business Support team collaborated with Natwest and Bristol Refugee Festival to bring people’s lived experiences to life. During the event, our team shared feedback and insights we've received from our community.
Bristol Refugee Festival at Queen Square
We concluded the week at the Bristol Refugee Festival in Queen Square. Many of our food and craft traders showcased their handmade products and local dishes. A big thank you to everyone who came out to support us and our traders, making the event a huge success.
Refugee Week is not just a celebration but a testament to the strength and vibrancy of refugee communities. We look forward to continuing our work and supporting refugees in their journey towards a brighter future, and we invite you to be a part of this journey.
