On a cold winter night in late December, Hamid landed in London after a long tiring journey.

I grew up in a remote refugee camp in northern Jordan. Over 38,000 people call 0.75 square kilometers home, this fact alone made the United Kingdom feel enormous to me.

At ACH we support people from many different cultures with different skills - according to their needs. During the Christmas period, we offered stalls to our clients in Bristol and Bath.

On the 8th December, ACH held a seminar on the Nationality and Borders Act and it’s impact so far for people seeking sanctuary in the UK. We heard from an expert panel, including:

Debesay is from Eritrea and came to the UK in 2020. His first language is Tigrinya, and he didn’t know English well. Debesay first approached ACH looking for English lessons to improve his language skills.

Abdulazim first came to the UK from Afghanistan as a refugee in 2020. When he arrived the UK was under full lockdown as a result of Covid-19. This made starting his life in a new country, meeting new people and learning English a challenge.
