Refugee Week Events 2019

We always look forward to the flurry of exciting events happening each year for Refugee Week as it is a chance for ACH to get involved with this important celebration of the contribution that refugees have on our society. This year Refugee Week is running from the 17th to the 23rd June and the Bristol Refugee Festival runs throughout 11th – 30th June, coinciding with Refugee Week.

This year’s theme is ‘You, Me and Those Who Came Before’ and this theme is an invitation for people to explore the lives of refugees – and those who have welcomed them – throughout the generations.

Bristol Events

Sanctuary in Sport – 15th June 2019:

Join us for an afternoon of family-friendly activities, games and sports, including the annual Bristol Refugee Festival tournament! Organised by United Communities with support from BRF, Bristol Rovers, Bristol City of Sanctuary and the Hub Lockleaze, this event is not one to be missed.

ACH themselves are entering two 6-a-side teams into the Our City Community Cup Tournament which will be made up of a tenants, learners and staff. It would be fantastic for our teams to have the loudest cheer so please come and support us if you can. You can find out more information here.

ACH Annual Bike Ride – 19th June 2019:

Each year we organise a bike ride open to all members of the local community including our tenants, learners, staff and volunteers. We cycle along the Bristol to Bath cycle path from Easton (roughly a 50-minute ride), stopping along the river for a picnic and games.

This event is open to all and encourages integration, community spirit and most importantly – fun! You can find out more information about the day here.

Celebrating Sanctuary – 23rd June 2019:

The flagship event for Bristol Refugee Festival is a true celebration of refugees in the city. The day consists of fantastic music, food and information and is open to all communities.

Held at Queen Square, Bristol, this central event encapsulates the meaning of togetherness and welcomes people from all over the city.

ACH as always will have an information stall at the event where you can come and chat to our team about the services we offer and find out more about what we do. Event information can be found here.

West Midland Events

‘You, Me and Those Who Came Before’ Refugee Week Exhibition – 10th – 28th June 2019:

Coffee Morning – 19th June:

ACH Refugee Day family get together – 20th June:

On World Refugee Day 2019, we are inviting tenants and ex-tenants to join our Wolverhampton team for an afternoon of fun, football and food. This event is open to all the family so children are welcome to join in the fun.

We are holding this event on World Refugee Day as we want to celebrate our refugee tenants and do something special for them in Wolverhampton. More information here.
